THE DARK PLANET

by

Phillip A. Ellis

Beyond the moon that climbs from the dark sea,
starclad and silent, beyond the planets' spheres,
there turns another garbed in ebon fears,
with trains of rumour, hints of lunacy,
and there, where all is dark, no eyes can see
what nightmare shapes await upon the tiers
of citadels and cities rising sheer
from plains of ice unmarred by tree or ley.

And there, where all is dark, strange fungi grow,
a race that worships forces dark and dire
that lie between the stars, which men don't know
except the few fulfilling Yuggoth's needs.
Eternal darkness shrouds the planet's gyre
beyond the ken of men, their fears and greeds.
